Abya Yala in the Guna language (present in Panama and Colombia) means ‘flowered land’ or ‘mature land’.
At present, practically all indigenous organizations, movements and institutions throughout the continent prefer to refer to the entire continent as Abya Yala, as a conscious rejection of Eurocentric labels like “America” and “New World.”
